See Program Schedule Here

Clients often find that their insurance companies prefer to provide coverage for PHP instead of residential care, and at The Highlands eating disorder PHP, we provide treatment that meets or exceeds national standards. Clients in our PHP program reside in our nearby therapeutic community apartments (for a small fee), or at home. Post-treatment hours and living accommodations are peer-supported and recovery oriented, so that mutual support is provided 24 hours a day. The primary difference between a residential program and our PHP, is that we do not have on-site staff monitoring after treatment hours. PHP clients do receive the exact same intensive therapy and structure during daily treatment hours that they would in a residential eating disorder program.

What Happens After Our Eating Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program

While individual levels of care have general time frames, none have specific start and completion times. Each of our clients progress at different rates in their recovery. This is natural and to be expected, since no two individuals are alike, and their treatment trajectory reflects this. Once The Highland’s eating disorder partial hospitalization program has been successfully completed, and clients are ready for less structured therapy, they generally transition into either our intensive outpatient program (IOP), or our associated outpatient program on-site, or with an outpatient program at home. National research has validated consistently the importance of a gradual progression from a state of high structure and intensity of monitoring and treatment, through two or more down-steps, and ultimately into complete independence. Better sustained recovery long-term is achieved by this progressive therapeutic model. Most of The Highlands eating disorder PHP clients step down into our intensive outpatient treatment program. Once treatment in one of The Highland’s eating disorder recovery center specialized programs is completed, we provide structured post-discharge follow up throughout the first year.  We also begin aftercare planning long before treatment is completed at The Highlands. Our local clients are invited to take part in alumni support activities. The Highland’s clients often make deep connections with their peers during treatment, and are able to provide mutual support in the future as recovery is sustained. The Highland’s staff is also delighted so see former clients at our alumni events!
