The Highlands’ clinical team is here to closely evaluate each client, and make sure that they receive the most effective combination of bulimia treatment options. Treatment options for bulimia are based on the unique problems of an individual, taking into account the complexities of both their eating disorder history and any co-occurring disorders. Co-occurring disorders can include issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, substance abuse, and many other issues.
Bulimia nervosa is a very serious disorder. Bingeing and purging behaviors may become so severe that life-threatening imbalances in the body can occur. Without treatment, persistent eating behaviors can lead to serious chronic health problems. The Highlands is here to help clients and their families receive the right level of treatment for bulimia, ensuring an effective transition towards recovery.
Why Having Multiple Bulimia Treatments Options is So Essential
Treatment options for bulimia need to meet an individual’s current medical, therapeutic, and nutritional needs. The Highlands’ skilled clinicians collaborate closely, in order to determine the current baseline condition of each client.
The continuum of bulimia treatment options for someone with this eating disorder range from an inpatient medical stay (for more severe metabolic and nutritional deficits), and stepping down into progressive programs that allow varying intensities of therapy with increased independence and self-care.
Each level of care offers specific amounts of monitoring, structure, independence, and therapy focus. We encourage family involvement during each level of care.
Not all clients are appropriate for the levels of care offered at The Highlands, but we are happy to work with clients and families to locate excellent alternatives. Never hesitate to contact The Highlands intake and admission staff for more information.

At The Highlands, each and every program combines medical, psychological, and nutritional therapy approaches, completely customized to each client’s current needs. Individual, group, and family therapy is integrated into each level of care. Real-life skills development is a core part of treatment for each client.
In each of our bulimia treatment programs clients interact with:
A board certified psychiatrist and our Clinical Director oversee the care of each of our clients.
At higher levels of care, such as PHP, clients at The Highlands are encouraged to live in our therapeutic community housing. However, we understand that this is not always possible for local clients, and for clients with work or school obligations. Whether clients live in peer-supported apartments or at home, each aspect of therapy meets or exceeds national standards. The Highlands is proud of the level of care and expertise our clinicians bring to each of our treatment options for bulimia.
