Castlewood at The Highlands provides expert care to clients with all types of eating disorders and co-occurring disorders such as Anxiety, Depression or Trauma. Our facility is open to both men and women, ages 16 and above.
Our experienced clinicians use a three-armed therapy approach, with medical, therapeutic, and nutritional treatment supporting the recovery process. Research shows that this multi-faceted approach is the most effective means of treatment for someone with an eating disorder. The Highlands philosophy is to provide fully customized care, integrating the medical, therapeutic, and nutritional needs of each client in a dynamic and ongoing process.

Our treatment facility is located in the safe, upscale Greystone neighborhood in Birmingham, Alabama. Care is provided in a beautiful, therapeutic suite of offices, with ample space for both private and group therapy sessions and activities. A fully-equipped kitchen and comfortable dining room provide the tools and setting for resuming normalized eating behaviors. Privacy and confidentiality is assured in our services, as well as in our lovely setting in the foothills of the Appalachians.
Depending on the level of care, clients live in either our modern and comfortable therapeutic community apartments, or at home. The Highlands apartments are conveniently located to our therapy center.
Treatment at The Highlands
Each client at The Highlands works with a dedicated primary team that includes a therapist or psychologist, a dietitian, a psychiatrist, and nurse. Therapy is also supported by other therapists, giving a cohesive, meaningful treatment experience. Treatment is evidence-based, meaning that The Highlands implements approaches and techniques that have been shown to be highly effective. We are also flexible, and able to meet clients’ unique needs.
Our purpose and our passion is to help clients understand the underlying issues behind their eating disorders and other associated emotions and behaviors. The Highlands’ ultimate goal is to help clients return home with the skills and support they need to avoid returning to old eating behaviors and destructive emotional patterns.
